Richard Green
Richard L. Green, Rector

Fr. Richard Green, Rector of St. Stephen’s, has been in that position since 2000. He previously served parishes in the San Francisco Bay Area and far northern California.  He received his M.Div. from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, and his B. A. With Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.  He did graduate studies in marine archaeology and worked in that field before ordination. He is married to the Rev. Kathleen Patton, Associate for Family Ministries.  They have a son, Aidan, born in 1998.  Fr. Richard is a fifth generation Texan.  He has been a practitioner of contemplative prayer for over 20 years, and presents introductory training in Centering Prayer.

Kathleen Patton, Associate for Family Ministries
The Rev. Kathleen Patton (known to many as “Mother Kathleen”) works with families, children, and youth at St. Stephen’s.  She has a passionate interest in helping young people grow in their faith. A priest of seventeen years, and a graduate of Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Kathleen is married to Richard Green, and mother of nine year-old Aidan. She is silly about the family dog, “Rowan”, and enjoys gardening and a good walk around Lake Sacajawea.

John Ackermann, Deacon
Deacon John Ackermann says that St. Stephen's has been his home church almost forty years. Before that, John and his wife Sharon attended St. James in Cathlamet. They have two children, Val and Wayne. A few years after John's retirement from Reynolds Metals Cable Company, he attended the diocese school of theology in preparation to be ordained as a deacon. As a candidate for orders, John spent a year of internship in Vancouver , Washington, at All Saints Episcopal Church, where Priest Ann Hicks is the Vicar. After his ordination in 2003 he was named as a deacon of the Diocese of Olympia and assigned to St. Stephen's in Longview.

Angela Warning,
Administrative Assistant

Angela Warning, Administrative Assistant, was born and raised in Longview. She worked for twenty-five years in the legal field, most recently as Coordinator for Cowlitz/Wakiakum County Legal Aid.

She and her husband, Stephen Warning, a Superior Court judge, have been married for 25 years. They have two children, Meghan, 23, and Kevin, 21.

Parishioners should not be surprised to see a yellow lab puppy accompanying Angie at the church now and then. She is a trainer for guide dogs for the blind.

Ann Long, Treasurer
Ann Long serves in at least two roles at St. Stephens. Her administrative role is that of treasurer for the church. Ann is also the piano accompanist and serves in the music department of the church. (See her bio on the music page.) She attended Indiana University, earning a BA in Music in 1973. She has a degree in accounting and was the bookkeeper for a local law firm for twenty years.

Howard
Howard Meharg, Minister of Music
Howard Meharg has served as Director of Music at St. Stephen's for the past four years. He retired from teaching choral music for thirty years in the public schools of Longview and Kelso in 1995. Howard remains active in the choral art both as director of the adult choir at St. Stephen's as well as community groups, including a group of male singers who sing a Compline service periodically at the church. He is webmaster and editor of the six-state newsletter for the northwest division of the American Choral Directors Association. (More on Howard on the music page.)
 


Jean Watson, Director, Handbell Choir

Although Jean was almost continuously involved in vocal and choral music since 6th grade, she began playing handbells in 1997 in Charlotte, NC. After moving to Kalama and joining St. Stephen’s, she began directing the bell choir in 2006. She tried her hand at writing gospel peals and occasional full handbell pieces, which prompted her to work with Arnold Sherman in a handbell composition master’s course in the summer of 2007.

A Chicago native, she recently retired after teaching RN and allied health students for 34 years in Illinois, Kansas, South Carolina and Washington. She has a BA in speech and drama, an MSN in nursing education and a PhD in educational administration.

She still works with her own allied health software business and is a partner in a quilt pattern business. In her “free time,” she enjoys her two cats and keeping them out of her yarns and fabrics.

   
KatieKatie Lewis, Organist Katie Lewis, organist, grew up in Shoshone, Idaho and began her organist career at Christ Episcopal church at the age of eight. Katie has a BA in Music from Whitman College. (See her music bio on the music page.) She has taught piano for thirty-two year and also gives voice lessons.

Katie's husband is Stan Lewis, also a St. Stephen's choir member. They live in the woods above Rainier, OR.  Between them they have six children, who are all grown and gone. She says "we're now entertained by two cats."
