Ways
you can serve during worship services
Lector - In the worship service, the Lector reads the
Old Testament and New Testatment lessons and leads the Prayers of the People.
Lectors must be baptized.
Lay Eucharistic Minister - A Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM)
helps distribute the sacraments at Communion. LEMs must be confirmed and age
16 or older. LEMs are licensed for 3 years at a time, with the license term
beginning the first Sunday of Advent. The Rector appoints all new LEMs, so
if you are interested, please submit your name to the Church Office.
Eucharistic Visitor- As an extension of the Holy Eucharist, licensed
lay ministers take the sacraments from the communion service to those who are
homebound. Parish members who wish to accompany a Eucharistic Visitor
should contact Deacon John Ackermann.
Server - A Server is part of the procession and assists
the Celebrant during the Eucharist. Servers must be confirmed and age 18 or
older.
Crucifer and Torches - The Crucifer and
Torches are part of the procession and carry the candles and cross. Torches
must be baptized and Grade 3 or older. Crucifers must be confirmed and Grade
9 or older.
Usher - An Usher fulfills many small duties before, during,
and after the worship service. Duties including: helping people find seating,
recording service attendance, and passing offering plates.
Greeter - St. Stephen's has a wonderful team of greeters
that extends hospitality to our visitors at all weekend services.
Altar Guild - A perfect opportunity for anyone
who wants to work behind the scenes, the Altar Guild prepares the altar before
the worship service and cleans-up afterward. They also care for the worship
space and belongings and decorate the church seasonally. The Flower Guild,
a part of the Altar Guild, would love to have help from anyone who enjoys
the art of arranging and sculpting with flowers.
